Bus Terminal Kladno
competition 2016, 2nd prize
client: Statutární město Kladno
The design that we submitted for an architectural competition addresses a major part of the area delimited by Dukelských hrdinů, Gen. Klapálka, Dr. Vrbenského and Hajnova streets in the very heart of Kladno. The basic compositional principle is to fix and accentuate the pedestrian route from Poštovní Square, across the area, leading to the area intended for development, situated in what is currently a brown field. That is why a new square has been designed on the bend of its axis, demarcated on three sides by the bus terminal, a supermarket and an important new building provisionally called the “Gallery”. The bus terminal, in the north part of the area, is a significant city and inter-city junction with roofed platforms. It includes a building with services for passengers, drivers and passers-by and an underground park+ride. The western facades of the terminal and the supermarket are just next to Dukelských hrdinů Street and they sort of “reinforce” it. On the other side of the street are a handful houses scattered along Dr. Vrbenského and Gen. Klapálka streets, with some residential homes that are of similar size and regular style. Green vegetation prevails in the entire area.
