Entrance Hall of the ČVUT, Prague

finished 2007

client: Czech Technical University in Prague

The architects had the task to renew the main entrance area of the original Neo-Renaissance building at Karlovo Square and its direct connection to the entrance to the Prague subway system. First, all building alterations from the second half of the 20th century were removed and the portals facing the square were covered in glass. Also the portal facing the subway station had to be renewed. The entrance space contains a receptionist's booth that is made from glass and concrete and that, similarly like the displayed historical steam engine, contrasts with the surrounding historical style but does not compete with it. The entire space is lit by soft indirect light, reflected on the vaulted ceiling.
