Family House in Prague 6, Baba district

finished 2002

The family house is a new, semi-detached addition in a lane of family row houses from the beginning of the 1980s. The overall width of the plot was only 6m, the border required by the building authority was set to 1,5m, so the house could be only 4,5 m wide.

On the ground floor in the narrowest part of the house is the entrance hall, leading into an open living area consisting of kitchen, dining space and living room. The living room opens into the garden through a large French window. The narrow part on the first floor houses the parents? bedroom; in the wider part is a large bathroom and two rooms with an adjoining terrace on the roof of the garage. The garage was the only part of the building that could extend to the whole width of the plot. In the basement are a room with a window well, a bathroom, furnace room and a storage space. The stairway space, connecting all three floors, is illuminated by a large skylight in the roof.

The choice of materials was based on the original context of adjoining buildings - dominant is a running bond brick facing, combined with rough-cast and wooden windows. For the outer railing and terraces we applied unsaturated pinewood.
